About the event

Join us for an exciting and meaningful shoreline cleanup and dive against debris event at the historic site of Africville Park.

This cleanup is a collaborative endeavour, hosted by Ocean Week Halifax, Mind Your Plastic, Torpedo Rays Scuba, Sustainable Oceans Conference, and Africville Heritage Trust. During this event, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to preserving the local marine environment by removing debris and litter from both the shoreline and underwater. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the ocean and coastlines while promoting sustainable practices. Let’s help end plastic pollution in Canada. We can all be part of the solution!

Activities:

  • Shoreline cleanup: Volunteers will work together to remove litter and debris from the shoreline, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for both marine life and visitors.
  • Underwater dive against debris: Experienced divers will have the chance to explore the underwater world while actively removing debris and harmful materials from the ocean floor.
  • Come learn about what its like underwater at Africville!
  • Explore the Ocean, Freshwater, and Us giant floor map of Canada
  • Dive into history with the Walking Africville audio tour – https://storymaps.arcgis.com/…/7b456eb7201d45fea813bd0b…

Requirements for Underwater Cleanup Activities:

  • Advanced diving certification and experience are mandatory for participation in underwater cleanup activities.
  • All divers must bring their own diving equipment and follow strict safety protocols.
  • Divers should sign-up via the Eventbrite link
  • Non-divers are welcome to participate in the shoreline cleanup efforts and help out as shore support

Join us in this meaningful endeavor and contribute to the preservation of our ocean playground. Together, we can make a lasting impact and ensure a cleaner, healthier future in Halifax and beyond!
