JUNE 7TH, 2024

OCEANS & YOU

On June 7th, 2024, we set up at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic for a fun day of learning and interaction with the ocean community! Attendees played an interactive fishing game at our booth, learned from community members about current ocean work taking place, and learned more about our upcoming conference!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by!

On June 8th, 2024, we celebrated World Ocean Day on the Halifax Harbourfront in front of the Queen's Marquee! Attendees stopped by our booth to learn more about our research and the upcoming conference, shopped for educational marine books (at a pay-what-you-can rate) and played our interactive fishing game.

It was great to spend the day appreciating our coastal waters, learning about the importance and history of World Ocean Day, and enjoying the beautiful Halifax Waterfront!

Thank you to all who stopped by!

JUNE 9TH, 2024

shoreline
&
underwater clean-up

On June 9th, we organized a shoreline cleanup and dive against debris event at the historic site of Africville Park. This cleanup was a collaborative endeavour, hosted by Ocean Week Halifax, Mind Your Plastic, Torpedo Rays Scuba, Sustainable Ocean Conference, and Africville Heritage Trust.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to contribute to preserving the local marine environment by removing debris and litter from both the shoreline and underwater. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about protecting the ocean and coastlines while promoting sustainable practices. The cleanup had an amazing turnout, with volunteers cleaning, and community members engaged with our local mermaid, a touch-tank, and free barbeque!
